THE TURTLE AND THE SNAIL
by Sam Younghans

Charlie Snail crept up the side of a flower pot, headed for some delicious gardenia leaves. Just then, Wilbur Turtle appeared from around the corner of the yard. He spotted Charlie, nearing the top of the pot. He called out, “Hi Charlie!”
“Hi Wilbur!” replied Charlie, continuing his climb.
“What are you up to, Charlie?”
“Almost, up to the top of this pot. Gonna have me some gardenia leaves for lunch. Where have you been, Wilbur?”
“Just had my lunch down at the pond; had some grub worms.”
“Grub worms!” screamed Charlie “Didn’t you know? Grub worms are my cousins.”
         “Well they sure taste good.”
“How could you eat my relatives?”
“I didn’t know they were your relatives.”
“Well, they are. You know, that’s just like eating me.”
“Hmmm! You just gave me a thought.”
